What Do I Mean By Audience Intent?

Okay, so let’s start with a bit of introspection

and think about our own habits when we interact with Search Engines like Google, Bing, Duck Duck Go, etc

Whenever we go to a search engine and type some thing in it’s search bar,

Most of the times the questions that we ask these search engines can be divided into 2 main categories

  • Informative
  • Commercial

The intent behind asking Informative queries is of course to find some sort of information

For example,

  • “Where is this particular apartment complex located?”
  • “Game Development Tutorial” – Shamelessly Plugging Myself In :p
  • “Education pathway for career in information security”
  • “What is SEO?”
  • “How to make a blog using wordpress”
  • “Pew Die Pie”

and so on

While you have a commercial intent when your search query is related to you wanting to purchase something

or learning about a product or service that you are seriously considering buying into

for example,

and so on

These two categories when used to analyze the content on our blog or kept in mind when doing things like keyword research,

will give us content creators a clear vision on why people are coming to our website.

Why Understanding Your Blog Visitor’s Intent Is So Important For Your Monetizing Website

Now as a content creator what you need to understand is this very difference in the mindset of a person

who is asking informative questions vs commercial questions.

A person searching for a query like “Game Development Tutorial”

is searching for the information and does not have an intent of buying any product or service

Their sole purpose behind this search is to make themselves better at developing games.

While a person searching for “Asus RTX 3080 Amazon”

has a clear intent of buying a RTX 3080 GPU by Asus on Amazon.

On the other hand a query like “Elgato Streamdeck Review”

can be considered as a gray area which lies between commercial and informative intent,

where the person is interested in the product enough to spend some time to learn about it

and might even have a commercial intent, if the content creator is able to convince them accordingly.

This is important because, as i’ve shown in the article about Ways To Monetize Your Blog Content

there are quite a lot of revenue streams using which you can monetize your blog.

On top of that, you can have multiple of these revenue streams running consequently on the same blog and there would be no problem.

but once you understand, with what intent your blog visitors are coming to your blog,

you will be able to select the correct combination of revenue stream for your blog monetization.

In the next and the last article of this 3 part article series on Monetizing Websites

I’ll be going over how you can Build a Montization Strategy

which will cover selecting the appropriate combination of revenue streams based on examples

but for now, let’s continue!

Using Audience Intent To Improve Your Content and Monetization Strategy

Now having a content strategy that will help you in balancing the type of content you have on your website

and can help you a lot in diversifying your blogs monetization avenues,

Let’s take this very blog as an example, as it is right now.

Before this article was released, there were a total of 30 articles published.

Out of which, there were 29 articles on Unity Game Development,

while 1 article was a product review on Logitech MK345 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo.

So, considering that, you can concur, most people coming to this blog have an Informative Intent,

on top of that, most articles are largely about programming and working with Unity Game Engine.

which would make it hard for me to organically recommend some product or service to blog visitors.

It is still possible, like i’ve done in article about Developing Games on Crappy PCs by recommending RAM for their PC

but such opportunities are far fetched and would not be found in most articles.

This leads to this particular blog, in the state it is, quite bad for doing something like Affiliate Marketing

and to remedy that what i’ll need to do in the future is

to do thorough research on products and services that can help game developers

and add more articles with commercial intent to this blog,

if i ever want to earn Affiliate income from here.

Conclusion

Well Folks, that does it for this article.
